Data
ORD can open a door to boundless knowledge. But you have to be able to find the key.
Sharing knowledge means shaping the future; it should be done with purpose and structure.
building tomorrow together
Open Research Data (ORD) fosters greater collaboration and knowledge sharing across scientific domains, while upholding essential security considerations.
It is revolutionizing the scientific landscape, bridging gaps in science, technology, and innovation, while upholding the fundamental human right to access and contribute to science advancements.
ON A MORE LOCAL SCALE, THOUGH MANY SWISS INSTITUTIONS HAVE DEVELOPED ORD POLICIES AND INFRASTRUCTURES
Researchers still lack a cohesive, efficient ORD ecosystem. The Strategy Council (“StraCo”) was created in order to make this happen in Switzerland.
Given our country’s rich diversity of scientific communities and practices, we strongly believe that a coordinated, strategic approach to developing ORD is the key to groundbreaking scientific advancements.
a new, coordinated approach
The Strategy Council (StraCo) is a new national entity within the Swiss education, research and innovation (ERI) governance system. It is composed of 8 senior officeholders from the ETH-RAT, the SNSF, swissuniversities and the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences.

January 2020
Recognition that ORD has to be prioritized
The State Secretariat for Education, Research, and Innovation (SERI) commissions swissuniversities to develop a Swiss National Open Research Data Strategy and an associated action plan.
July 2021
Publication of the Swiss National ORD Strategy
Swissuniversities, the ETH domain, the SNSF, and the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences publish the Swiss National Strategy for Open Research Data (ORD), commissioned by the State Secretariat for Education Research and Innovation (SERI).
The Strategy provides a framework for the development of practices built around sharing research data in Switzerland, and for governing the services and infra-structures that support researchers and enable ORD practices.

our aim
StraCo aims to support the development of a digital infrastructure ecosystem supporting world-class ORD practices in Switzerland, for both national and an international usage.
different actors, different actions, same goals
- identify domain clusters and drive coordination and consolidation within them
- refer to and engage with researchers and stakeholders
- align the engagement of ERI Actors and Higher Education Institutions
